Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential repair work on gas pipes along the A66 westbound, between Elton and Long Newton, Teesside.

To allow engineers to work safely and efficiently, one lane of the carriageway will be temporarily closed from approximately 10:30am today (Tuesday, 19 November).

The gas supply to nearby homes and businesses remains unaffected, and we expect the repairs to be completed by the end of the day.

Vin Gottmers, Site Manager at Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused during these essential repairs and thank the public for their patience.

“Our team is working hard to complete the work as quickly as possible.”

For further information about the work please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.

Anyone that smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999. This line is in operation 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
