Work with us

At Northern Gas Networks (NGN), we’re as passionate about people as we are about pipes. We believe that by building strong relationships across our supply chains we can deliver lasting value for both NGN, the people we work with, and our region, in support of our business purpose.

Working in partnership

We’re proud to work with some fantastic people and we’re always on the lookout for potential suppliers.

On this page, you’ll find everything you need to know about becoming a supplier and what we look for in our partners.

Become a supplier

As a regulated business, we are subject to the Public Procurement Act 2023 and when requirements exceed mandated thresholds, we publicly advertise our tenders, either through the Achilles Supplier Solutions platform, UVBD (Utilities Vendor Database) or on the Government Central Digital Platform ‘Find a Tender’.

Once registered you can store your details, receive alerts and search, bid for and manage contract opportunities. For lower value opportunities, we use the search function within Achilles UVDB, but you can also submit your company information via our pre-market engagement questionnaire on our supplier information portal, Market Dojo.

Our commitment to sustainable procurement

As an anchor organisation in the heart of the North of England, it’s vital that we use our purchasing power in the most effective way.

We value local businesses – no matter how small. Our Workforce and Supply Chain Resilience Strategy has been developed to not only ensure we procure in a sustainable and responsible way, but to enable us to use our spending power to support diverse businesses across our network.

Our strategy places a laser like focus on building strong and enduring relationships with our suppliers and investing in the communities that we serve to help them to grow and prosper, while challenging and championing continuous improvement.  At the heart of this approach is ensuring that our supply chain is resilient, adaptable and capable of delivering reliable, efficient, and sustainable services to customers, even in the face of external shocks and evolving industry challenges.

Our partnership principles

We love building new partnerships with suppliers who share our values and approach in support of our business purpose.

There are our promises to our customers – simply the way we do things at Northern Gas Networks and what we look for in our partners too.

  • Collaborative: We work collaboratively to develop new ideas, embrace feedback and resolve challenges.

  • Accountable: We are transparent about decisions and accountable for actions.

  • Fair: We operate ethically and treat people fairly and equitably.

  • Innovative: We innovate and enhance sustainability for our communities and the environment.

  • Data Driven: We harness data and technology to modernise options, improve our customer experience and measure what works, and understand what does not.

  • Efficient: We strive for value in everything we do, maximising efficiency to improve our service while keeping costs as low as possible for our customers.

These principles provide the core of our purchasing values and inform the decisions we make surrounding our suppliers.
