Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Workington.

The work, which will take place on Annie Pitt Lane, Solway Road and Derwent Road, will involve the ageing metal gas pipes underground being replaced with modern plastic equivalents and is part of a wider investment programme to modernise the region’s infrastructure.

The works will begin on Monday 4 August and are expected to take approximately 7 weeks to complete.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect engineers and the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place during the works.

A lane closure will be in place on Annie Pitt Lane from Monday 4 August.  Once work on this section of the project is complete a single lane closure will be put in place on Solway Road.

While the majority of the work will be carried out in the street, engineers will need to access homes and businesses to complete the project, and the team will be door knocking customers to inform them about the works and provide help and support including making arrangements to minimise disruption.

Dan Hind, Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents and business owners of Workington.

“Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual and we will be working hard to  complete this essential project as safely and as quickly as possible.”

All Businesses will remain open as usual.

For further information about the work please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
