Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work in Linthorpe, to replace the ageing metal pipework with new, more durable plastic pipes.

The work, which is expected to begin on Monday 26 October, will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to the local community in Linthorpe for years to come.

The project, which is expected to finish at the end of January 2027, has been carefully planned in collaboration with Middlesbrough Council.

Work Details

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect members of the public, rolling temporary traffic lights will be in place on Roman Road from the junction of St Barnabas Rd to Oxford Road from Monday 26 October. The lights will be manned at peak times to help traffic to continue to flow.

On-street parking on Roman Road will be suspended for the duration of the work. Access for residents and businesses will be maintained at all times.

Gavin Stewart, Site Manager at Northern Gas Networks, said: “We understand that work like this can be disruptive for residents, businesses and people travelling through the area, and we’re grateful to local people for bearing with us while our teams are on site.

“By replacing the ageing metal pipes with more durable plastic ones, we’re investing in the network beneath Linthorpe’s streets to help keep local homes and businesses safely and reliably connected to gas for many years to come. We’ll do everything we can to minimise disruption and complete the work as safely and efficiently as possible.”
