Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, will be carrying out essential work to upgrade the gas pipes in King Street, Wigton.  The work will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The work is scheduled to begin on Monday 26 October 2026 and expected to take around two weeks to complete.

Work Details

To enable engineers to carry out the work safely and efficiently, a temporary road closure will be in place on King Street, from the junction of Meeting House Lane to Kings Arms Yard. Parking will also be restricted along this section of King Street.

Road users travelling north from South End Road (B5305) will be able to access West Street and rejoin the route at the Market Place monument.

Access from West Road towards King Street and the monument will not be possible while a lane closure is in place.

Advance warning signs will be in place, and diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

Dan Hind, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents and business owners of Wigton.

“We understand that roadworks can be frustrating for residents, businesses and visitors, and we’re grateful for everyone’s patience while this essential work takes place. Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual, and we will be working hard to complete the project as safely and as quickly as possible.”
