Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work on Selby Road, Leeds to replace the ageing metal pipework with new, more durable plastic pipes.

This work will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Leeds, keeping homes and businesses safe, warm and connected.

The project, which is expected to finish around the end of August, has been planned in collaboration with Leeds City Council. So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect members of the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place.

Work Details

From Wednesday 22 July until Tuesday 28 July there will be a lane closure on Selby Road, near the junction of Knightshill. Traffic will still be able to travel in both directions, however motorists in the area may experience delays as a result of this essential work.

From Tuesday 28 July to Thursday 6 August, all vehicles will use the bus lane. The existing bus stop will be suspended, and replaced with two temporary bus stops – one close to the Lidl, and another on Selby Road close to the junction of Willow Well Road.

From Thursday 6 August to the end of the work, a road closure will be in place affecting motorists heading southbound on Selby Road. A fully signed diversion will be in place.

Chris Reed, Business Operations Lead at Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works.

“However, it’s vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Leeds.

“We have worked with Leeds City Council and other stakeholders to carry out this work during the school holidays, minimising the disruption caused.”
