Engineers from Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the North of England’s gas distributor, are carrying out repairs to a gas pipe in Scotland Road in Penrith.
In order to carry out the repair safely and efficiently it has been necessary to temporarily close Scotland Road.
Mark Lawson, Emergency Officer at Northern Gas Networks, said: “Initially temporary traffic lights were used, but as our teams now need access to both sides of Scotland Road, a road closure has been put in place with a clearly signposted diversion.
“Safety is our priority, and we’re working as quickly as possible to complete this work. We apologise for any temporary inconvenience this may cause.”
The gas supplies to homes and businesses in the area haven’t been affected.
