Scouting for safety
Case study
Young people are among the demographics most at risk of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, but they are also one of the groups least aware of its dangers.
Alongside the three other UK gas distributors, we have worked with the Scout Association to deliver carbon monoxide awareness training.
A range of activities were developed for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, including a new carbon monoxide awareness blanket badge, designed for older Scouting sections.
A carbon monoxide e-learning package was also developed to educate Scout leaders and adult volunteers.
Creating future CO and energy champions
By 2026, more than 345,000 scouting members have been engaged with carbon monoxide activities through this collaborative partnership.
The success of the partnership resulted in us broadening the programme to include energy efficiency and fuel poverty awareness.
This is helping create a future generation of carbon monoxide and energy champions who can take their learning home to share with their households.
