Working with fire & rescue services
Case study
Fire services regularly carry out home safety checks to ensure local properties have working smoke alarms and are free from fire hazards.
We were able to piggyback onto this essential work by providing fire services with carbon monoxide alarms to distribute to households, along with other related support.
Through this partnership, Cleveland Fire Authority in the North East of England, was able to fit carbon monoxide alarms during home visits, as well as providing warmth packs, and making onward referrals to community organisations such as Age UK.
More than 1,300 CO alarms were installed in the local area, with more than 1,700 households benefiting from wider support.
Safer Home visit
A gentleman living alone in Hartlepool received a Safer Homes visit from Cleveland Fire Authority. The fire service installed smoke alarms and two carbon monoxide alarms in his property but were able to go much further to support the customer.
Recognising the customer’s loneliness and isolation, the team referred him to their Befriending Service, which led to him attending social meetups, and receiving follow-up visits from the fire authority’s community advocates.
