The North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), will soon be carrying out essential works to improve the gas distribution network in Corbridge, near Hexham in Northumberland.

The project is part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the gas infrastructure in the area and involves laying more than 750m of additional, brand-new durable plastic gas mains. This investment of close to £150k in the upgrading of the network will ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The works have been carefully planned in conjunction with Northumberland County Council and Corbridge Parish Council, in order to minimise any disruption to local customers and commuters.

Work will begin in Front Street on Monday 6th January 2020. In order for the works to be carried out safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to implement a road closure on Front Street, at the junction with the B6321. The closure will last for up to five weeks. Residents are kindly asked to park elsewhere during this time, as access will be by foot only.

It is expected that these works will cause some delays to journey times, so motorists are advised to leave extra time for travel while the road closure is in place, and to use alternative routes if possible.

A community drop-in session is being held at Corbridge Middle School, Cow Lane, on Monday 9th December 2019 from 3:30pm until 6:30pm. Members of the public are invited to come along to meet the team and to ask any questions that they may have. Further sessions will be arranged for the new year.

NGN’s Customer Care Officers will be door-knocking local residents and businesses to make customers aware of the project, while on-site signage will advise motorists of the work taking place. Regular updates will also be available on NGN’s website northerngasnetworks.co.uk, Twitter @NGNgas and Facebook @northerngasnetworks.

Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual throughout the project.

Andrew Rodda, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We have been working closely with Northumbria County Council and Corbridge Parish Council to carefully plan these works and will be doing all we can to minimise disruption to customers.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience customers may encounter and thank everyone for their support as we work to complete this project as safely and quickly as possible.”
