Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the North of England’s gas distributor, is starting work on Monday 14 October to repair a gas main outside New Seaham Primary School on Byron Terrace, Seaham.

As the gas main is located in the road, to carry out this work as quickly and safely as possible, it will be necessary to install temporary four-way traffic lights in place of the exiting lights at the junction of Byron Terrace and Lord Byrons Walk.

Road users are advised to allow extra time for travel while the work is being carried out.

Mark Watson, Site Manager at Northern Gas Networks, said: “The safety of our customers and engineers is our number one priority, and the use of temporary traffic lights is absolutely necessary to complete this essential repair.

“We would like to thank customers for their patience at this time and apologise for any inconvenience experienced. We will keep residents and road users updated throughout the work.”

For further information about the project please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.

Anyone that smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999. This line is in operation 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
