Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a poisonous gas that you can’t see, can’t smell
and can’t taste, and if you breathe it in, it can make you seriously ill
or even cause death.

It can pose a danger at any time of the year, even in summer when BBQs, boilers, pizza ovens and camping stoves can all create a risk. CO poisoning can also occur in hotels, tents, holiday lets, and caravans, so we recommend taking a working CO alarm with you when you go away.

To claim a free alarm for you or a loved one:

 

  1. Check that you qualify for the giveaway. You must live in the Northern Gas Networks (NGN) distribution area. Find this out by visiting the Find My GDN website and entering your postcode
  2. Complete the first quiz to find out how much you know about the silent killer
  3. Read about the signs and symptoms and what to do if you suspect CO
  4. Take the second quiz to test your knowledge
  5. Enter your name and full address so we can send you your alarm
  6. You must apply before midnight on 30 August 2025 for your chance to claim a free CO alarm
