Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the North of England’s gas distributor is asking motorists and road users in Hartlepool to please observe the traffic management measures in place while engineers are carrying gas main replacement works on Park Road.

The works on Park Road began on 8th April at the junction of Elwick Road and are scheduled to take six weeks to complete.

In order for engineers to complete the project safely and to protect members of the public, a full rolling road closure has been introduced on Park Road from the junction of Queensbury Avenue for six weeks.

While access remains for residents for parking within closed sections, access can only be obtained via York Road.

Steven Storey, Site Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Hartlepool.

“We have agreed these works with Hartlepool Borough Council, and we are working as quickly as possible with safety being our number one priority. The traffic management measures we have in place are for the safety of the public and our team working on site.

“Any attempts to access roads that have been closed off not only compromises the safety of the person driving the vehicle, but also that of other road users, pedestrians and our team who are working to ensure the continued reliable supply of gas to the area.”

Ralph Young, Highways Department, Hartlepool Borough Council said: “We are working closely with Northern Gas Networks to ensure that they are able to carry out their essential work across Hartlepool.

“Although road closures and temporary traffic lights can cause inconvenience, they are necessary to reduce the likelihood of collisions.

“Please do not be tempted to breach the traffic management measures in place as the consequences can result in serious safety issues for both members of the public and Operatives on site.”
