We’re currently carrying out emergency repair works to a gas main on the A181 near Durham.

In order to carry out the work safely and efficiently, it has been necessary to install temporary three-way traffic signals at Sherburn House at the junction of the A181 and the B1198.

Andrew Coates, Site Manager at Northern Gas Networks said: “The safety of members of the public is our first priority and we would like to thank customers for bearing with us while we carry out this essential repair work.

“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to motorists and members of the public and I can assure you that we are working as quickly and safely as we can to repair the gas main.

“Our work here requires the use of specialist engineering repair equipment and hope to be able to complete the repair by Friday 16 November. I’d like to advise motorists to leave extra time for travel whilst the temporary traffic signals are in place.”

Regular updates will also be available on the website, Twitter @NGNgas and Facebook @northerngasnetworks.
