The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is upgrading the gas distribution network at Edgerton Road, Huddersfield.

The major project to replace an ageing gas main began on 24th September and is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in Huddersfield. The project is due to complete on 8th of February 2019.

In order to carry out the next phase of the works safely and efficiently it will be necessary to put the following traffic management in place:

Two-way lights will be introduced at the junction of Kaffir Road and Edgerton Road from 12th November until 25th November, manned from 7am until 7pm.

To ensure a smooth flow of traffic, rolling road closures will be in place from 26th November until 21st December and will include the suspension of the right-hand turns from Edgerton Road on to the following roads:

  • Junction of Kaffir Road and Halifax Road
  • Junction of Hungerford Road with Edgerton Road
  • Junction of Cleveland Road with Edgerton Road
  • Junction of Imperial Road with Edgerton Road
  • Junction of Luther Place with Edgerton Road
  • Junction of Queens Road with Edgerton Road

Fully signed diversions will be in place for motorists and residents will receive road closures letters via the post. The closures will be carried out in sequence as the works progress down Edgerton Road.

NGN will continue to provide further updates as the work continues and supply details of any further traffic management that may affect commuters.

Chris Nevison, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these works, and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting them completed as quickly as possible”.
