The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £75,000 to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network in West End and Manor Close, Kirkbymoorside.

The major project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in the area and will involve replacing around 600m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The project, which will begin on Monday 31 October and last approximately six weeks with an estimated finish date of 9 December, has been planned in conjunction with North Yorkshire Highways Authority to ensure all works are completed with as little disruption as possible.

The first phase will begin at the junction of Tinley Garth and West End on Monday 31 October and last around four weeks. During this phase there will be three-way temporary traffic lights at the junction of Tinley Garth to outside of 85 West End, which will remain in place for one week, starting on 31 October.

A road closure will also be introduced on West End from Monday 31 October for four weeks. During this time access will be maintained for residents and deliveries. All bus routes via West End will be diverted through West Lund, A170 back to the original route on Market Place.

Works will then move to Manor Close on Monday 28 November for two weeks until the project is complete.

Engineers will be working from Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm, and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times

Robert Hope, Construction Services Area Manager at Northern Gas Networks said: “We have been working closely with North Yorkshire Highways Authority to carefully plan the works in order to minimise any disruption to customers.

“We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these works, and thank our customers for patience and support in getting them completed as quickly as possible.”
