Northern Gas Networks will be carrying out essential work to replace approximately 360m of ageing metal gas mains in Whitby town centre with new durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas for years to come.
The essential work will commence on Monday, 6 January 2014 and will take an estimated six weeks to complete.
In order to carry out this work safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to put road closures in place on Sandgate and Grape Lane for the duration of the project. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
A temporary bus stop will be in place on Church Street.
Garry Farnhill, Customer Operations Area Manager, Northern Gas Networks said; ““We are working hard to minimise disruption to both residents and motorists and we have carefully planned our work so it coincides with the low tourist season.
“We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding, and apologise in advance for any inconvenience this essential work may cause.”
If you have any questions about the works please don’t hesitate to contact the Customer Care team on 0845 634 0508, option 7. The team is available between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday, and 9am and 5pm on Saturday.
