The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £85k to upgrade the ageing gas distribution network in and around Great Horton Road, Bradford.

The major project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in Bradford and will involve replacing almost 300m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes, to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The project, which began on Monday 24 July and is scheduled for completion on Friday 1 September, has been planned in conjunction with Bradford City Council to ensure all works are completed during the school holidays in order to cause as little disruption as possible.

Works began on Great Horton Road at the junction of Moore Avenue, and will progress to Old Road, Hollybank Road and Pickles Lane.

In order to carry out the work safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to introduce four-way temporary traffic signals at the junction of Hollybank Road and Moor Avenue for the full duration of the project. There will also be road closures in place on Pickles Lane and Old Road with signed diversion routes in place for all motorists.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times with engineers will be working Monday to Sunday between 8.30am and 6.30pm whilst working on Great Horton Road, then Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm for the rest of the project. Access will remain for all residents and businesses.

Josh Hampshire, Northern Gas Networks’ Construction Services Area Manager, said: “We have been working closely with Bradford City Council to carefully plan these works in order to minimise any disruption to customers.

“We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these works, and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting them completed as quickly as possible.”
