BackSalary from £34,774 + Operational Incentive Scheme
41.25 hours work pattern over 7 days - including standby/callout rota

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems, and making a real difference. You will work in all weather conditions and be part of a team that responds when customers need us most. Flexibility is important, as the role includes early mornings and evenings (with rotas provided in advance), along with a positive attitude, resilience, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
A full UK manual driving licence is essential. The role involves travel across NGN’s operational area, including major cities such as Newcastle, Sunderland, Leeds, York, Hull, and Bradford, as well as rural regions like North Yorkshire and Cumbria.
In this role you will
- Work alongside the Special Operations Team, Core Team and Vacuum Excavation Team, supporting a range of specialist activities including coring, vacuum excavation, gas escape repairs, camera surveys, excavation and shoring operations up to 6 metres deep, large-diameter flow stopping on low-pressure mains, fit testing, and the drilling of under-pressure tees and branch saddles with outlet sizes up to 300mm. You will also undertake cold cutting and window cutting on both live and dead mains
- Support mains and service replacement activities, gas escape repairs, and other gas distribution operations. This includes assisting the Team Leader with excavation, pipe laying, pipe jointing, connections, and repair work to maintain the safety and integrity of the gas network
- Following appropriate training, safely operate mobile plant, lifting and handling equipment, power tools and other specialist equipment, ensuring all equipment is maintained and stored correctly. This may include equipment such as mini excavators and pneumatic tools
- Carry out all duties in compliance with relevant Health and Safety legislation, company standards, policies, and codes of practice
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, customers, contractors and members of the public to exchange information and provide updates on work activities
- Undertake driving duties as required, including the transportation, collection and delivery of materials, equipment and resources in support of operational activities
