Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, will be carrying out essential work in Bywell, Stocksfield, to replace the ageing metal pipework with new, more durable plastic pipes.

The investment project, which is expected to take around 13 weeks to complete, is scheduled to begin on Monday 19 October and will help ensure a safe and reliable gas supply for local homes and businesses for many years to come.

NGN has planned the upgrade project in close collaboration with Northumberland County Council in order to minimise the disruption caused to the local community.

Work Details

To allow engineers to carry out the work safely and efficiently, the B6309 will be temporarily closed for eight weeks from Monday 19 October, between Stocksfield Station car park and the opposite side of Bywell Bridge. A signed diversion will be in place for road users, while pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. Parking at the train station will not be affected, and residents and businesses will continue to have access throughout the work.

Dan Hind, Operations Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We recognise that roadworks can be disruptive for residents, businesses and visitors, and we appreciate the patience and understanding of the local community while this essential work is carried out.

“These upgrades are an important investment in the area’s gas network, helping us to continue delivering a safe and reliable gas supply to homes and businesses in Bywell for years to come.

“Shops and businesses will remain open as usual throughout the project, and our teams will be working hard to complete the work as safely and efficiently as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.”
