Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is to carry out essential work in Pontefract to replace the ageing metal pipework with new, more durable plastic pipes.
This work will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Pontefract, keeping homes and businesses safe, warm and connected.
The project, which is expected to last around 2 weeks, has been planned in collaboration with Wakefield Council. So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place.
From 8pm on Wednesday 23 July, a lane closure will be in place on Jubilee Way northbound. Work will continue from 8pm-6am on the first two nights, and will then take place from 8am-4pm for the rest of the project. The footpath alongside Jubilee Way will also be closed with a temporary footpath installed.
At the end of the project, a night time closure of Jubilee Way will be required, with a signed diversion in place for motorists. Advance warning signs will be in place two weeks before the project starts.
Chris Reed, Central Operations Manager at Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it’s vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Pontefract.
“We’ve worked very closely with Wakefield Council to schedule this work during the school holidays to minimise disruption.”
