Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work in Warwick Bridge, Carlisle, to replace the ageing metal pipework with new, more durable plastic pipes.

This work will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Carlisle, keeping homes and businesses safe, warm and connected.

The project, which is expected to last until around mid-September, has been planned in collaboration with Cumberland Council. So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, traffic management measures are in place.

All traffic management is clearly signposted to inform road users about the works.

Since Monday 14 July, temporary traffic lights have been located on the A69 through Warwick Bridge at the junction with the B6263 (signposted Wetheral and Cumwhitton).  The lights are manned during peak periods to minimise disruption.

As the project has progressed, it has also been necessary to temporarily close the junction of Great Corby Road.

During later phases of the work it will be necessary to install a road closure at the junction of Little Corby Road leading towards the A69 and a further closure at the junction of Church Road, again leading towards A69.

Dan Hind, Operations Lead at Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it’s vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Carlisle.”
