Northern Gas Networks (NGN) – which delivers gas to 2.9 million homes and businesses in the North of England – teamed up with England Netball to offer a free inspiring session exploring key women’s health topics in Haltwhistle, Northumberland.

NGN is currently carrying out essential work in the town to replace the ageing metal pipework with new, more durable plastic pipes – keeping homes and businesses safe, warm and connected.

The work in Haltwhistle is part of a huge programme of replacement of the old metallic pipes, and is a significant investment towards NGN’s vision of a fairer, greener future for the North of England.

As the work continues, NGN funded an empowering, educational ‘NETBALLHer’ session for women of all ages at Haltwhistle Swimming and Leisure Centre.

Victoria Eames, Netball Development Officer at England Netball, said: “We’re eternally grateful for the support of Northern Gas Networks. It’s absolutely fantastic that they’re giving something back and supporting the community in this way, and I know it will mean a lot to people to be given this opportunity. The feedback said the session was amazing and everyone learned a lot.

“NETBALLHer is a movement sparking curiosity among women and girls about female health and wellbeing, breaking stigma, and tackling the knowledge gaps that hold them back. This is the first session we’ve run in the North East, with hopefully more to follow.”

England Netball also received funding from The Haltwhistle Partnerships’ Community Shops Fund to support this session.

Stevie Sharp-Brown, Customer Care Officer at Northern Gas Networks, said: “While we’re on site in Haltwhistle over the next few months carrying out this essential work, we’re working as closely as possible with the local community.

“We are aware that our work is causing disruption to residents for the next few months, so we were extra committed to giving something back, and this session is a great example of that.”
