Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Cottingham.

The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.

Work will begin Monday 6th November and we expect the works to take approximately five weeks to complete. Our team will be working hard to complete the project as quickly as possible and has been planned in collaboration with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some temporary traffic management will be put in place:

  • Traffic lights will be in place on Northgate and Queen’s Way for one week from Monday 6th
  • A road closure will be implemented on Northgate/New Village Road railway crossing. This will be in place from Monday 13th November and is scheduled for four weeks.
  • For public safety, water filled barriers will be in place at the railway crossing to prevent cars and large vehicles through the road closure. Pedestrians and cyclists will still have access.
  • Northgate and New Village Road will be accessible to businesses and residents and a full signed diversion will be put in place for motorists.

Scott Kitchingman, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Cottingham.

“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”
