The ageing main has undergone several recent emergency repairs, so has now been prioritised for urgent replacement. The ageing metal pipework is being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now, while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.

The work will commence on 14th August 2023 and is expected to last for approximately 2 weeks. It has been planned in collaboration with Bradford Council.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place.

There will be a road closure in place from the Brown Cow pub to Altar Lane for the full duration of the project.

We have been working with bus operators to provide a shuttle bus service to take customers around the road closure and we can confirm that a service will be in place from the 14th of August.

To minimise the impact on traffic, traffic management will be in place at peak hours (7am- 7pm) to assist with the flow of traffic when working under temporary traffic lights.

Advanced warning signs are in place, providing motorists with advanced notification. Signs will be displayed for motorists and a full signed diversion put in place.

While the majority of the work will be carried out in the street, engineers will need to access customer properties to complete the project and ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas. Our customer care team will be in touch with the households affected.

Chris Green, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Bradford.

“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”
