Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential upgrade work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Bradford.

The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now, while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future.

The work will commence on 23rd January 2023 and is expected to last for approximately five weeks. It has been planned in collaboration with Bradford Council.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some traffic management measures will be put in place during the project.

Engineers will commence work on the junction of Legrams Lane/ Preston Street junction, working under three-way traffic lights.

There will be a road closure introduced on Preston Street for approximately two weeks, from 23rd January 2023 to 3rd February, which will be in place for around two weeks.

Traffic will divert from Preston Street to Norcroft Street, while signs will be displayed for motorists and a full signed diversion put in place.

After this section has been completed, the project will move further along on Legrams Lane to the junction of Shearbridge Road, working under four-way temporary lights.

To minimise the impact on road users, the three-way and four-way temporary lights will be manned at peak hours between 7am and 7pm, to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

While majority of the work will be carried out in the street, engineers will need to access some customer properties to complete the project and ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas.

Chris Nevison, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Bradford.

“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”

While all of NGN’s work has now resumed, extra safety precautions remain in place to keep everyone safe while we continue to live with Covid-19.
