Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Hull.
The ageing metal pipework is now being replaced by new, more durable plastic pipes, to ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers now while getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels such as hydrogen in the future.
The work will start on Monday 21st November and is expected to last for 16 weeks. It has been planned in collaboration with Hull City Council.
So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, some temporary road closures will need to be put in place:
- A road closure will be implemented on Nicholson Street at the junction of Sculcoates Lane, along with two-way lights on Sculcoates Lane from Monday 21st November for two weeks.
- A road closure on Sculcoates Lane/Air Street (outside Crown Paints) from Tuesday 3rd January 2023 for six weeks.
- A road closure on Air Street at the Bank Side/Wincolmlee/Air Street roundabout along with two-way lights (Bank Side/Wincolmlee) from Monday 20th February 2023 for three weeks.
- A road closure on Wincolmlee (between Cars 4 Less and Bank Side/Wincolmlee/Air Street roundabout) from Monday 13th March 2023 for two weeks.
Businesses will remain open as usual, and a full signed diversion will be put in place for motorists.
While the majority of the work will be carried out in the street, engineers will need to access customer properties to complete the project and ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas. Those effected will receive a letter with further information and will be visited by a gas safe engineer.
Russ Kaye, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We’d like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Hull.
“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”
