Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, is carrying out essential gas network repairs to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Leeds.

The work will be carried out on the outbound carriageway of Dewsbury Road, LS11 from 5am Saturday 12th November and is expected to last for five days.

The project has been planned in collaboration with Leeds City Council, to take place this weekend after preliminary investigations confirmed urgent repair work is needed on a gas main under the carriageway.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, traffic management measures will be put in place, including a full signed diversion.

A road closure will be introduced on the A653 Meadow Road, at the roundabout on the inbound carriageway.

Traffic will be diverted down the inbound carriageway of Meadow Road towards to the city centre, across Great Wilson Street.

The diversion will then take motorists back onto the outbound carriageway of Meadow Lane, approaching Dewsbury Road.

Lanes one and two will be closed on Dewsbury Road in order for NGN teams to access the pipe and complete the repair.

Lane closures will also be installed on every affected street to ensure a safe flow of traffic.

Steve Pigott, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential repair works.

“However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply to the residents of Leeds.

“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”
