Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the gas distributor for the North of England, are undertaking essential gas mains diversion works work to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to communities in Carlisle.

The project is being carried out in collaboration with Cumbria County Council and forms part of the Carlisle Southern Link bypass renewal project joining from the M6 to Newby west A595.

The works will start on 31st October 2022 and are expected to last for 12 weeks.

So that engineers can carry out the work safely and efficiently, and to protect the public, a road closure will be necessary on Peter Lane during the works. NGN will share any updates if changes to the traffic measures are required.

Signs will be displayed for motorists and a full signed diversion put in place.

Dan Hind, Business Operations Lead for Northern Gas Networks, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these essential works. However, it is vital we complete them in order to continue to maintain a safe and reliable gas supply.

“We want to assure residents and road users that we will be working hard to complete this essential scheme as safely and as quickly as possible.”

For further information about the work please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
