Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the North of England’s gas distributor, are due to repair a gas main on the approach to exit junction 70 on the A1 Northbound, Whickham/Dunston exit. Due to the location of the gas main we need to close the inside lane of the A1 on the approach to the slip road again tonight (4 March). The lane will be closed between the hours of 22:00 on Wednesday 4th March until 06:00 the next morning. The two outside lanes on the A1 will be unaffected.

Andy Coates, Site manager at Northern Gas Networks, said “The safety of our customers and engineers is our number one priority, and closing this lane is essential in ensuring the public and our workforce stay safe at all times.

“We would like to thank customers for their patience at this time and apologise for any inconvenience experienced. We will keep businesses and road users updated throughout the work.”

For further information about the project please contact NGN’s Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or email: customercare@northerngas.co.uk.
