The north of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing £300,000 to upgrade the ageing metal gas distribution network in Hunslet, Leeds,

The major project is part of NGN’s ongoing development of infrastructure in the area and will involve replacing around 500m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes. This is to ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in Hunslet for years to come.

The project is due to begin Wednesday 24 July, and scheduled to last approximately six weeks.

All works have been planned in close conjunction with Leeds City Council to minimise disruption to customers.

In order to protect NGN engineers and members of the public, it will be necessary to introduce some traffic management during this time.

A lane closure will be in place at various points on Crown Point Road from Friday 26th July 2019 for the full duration of the works.

There will also be no left turn on to Crown Point Road from Great Wilson Street, and a clearly signed diversion will be displayed for all motorists.

It’s expected that journey times will increase because of the traffic management, so motorists and commuters are advised to leave extra time for travel while the works take place.

Pedestrian access will be maintained were possible and NGN engineers will be working Monday – Sunday between 8am-5pm.

Matty McBride, Business Operations Lead at Northern Gas Networks said: “We have been working closely with Leeds City Council to carefully plan the majority of these works in order to minimise any disruption caused.

We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused, and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting these works completed as quickly as possible.”
