Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the North of England’s gas distributor, has helped Upper Hopton Community Association get cooking thanks to a £1,000 donation.

The Upper Hopton Community Association, a registered charity based in Upper Hopton, Mirfield, was established in 1980 to organise events and maintain the village hall at Croft House Community Centre, on Jackroyd Lane, for the local community.

NGN donated the funds to the community association after our engineers spotted the charity while they were  carrying out a gas mains replacement project in the area. A representative for the charity told us they needed a new range cooker, so they could continue to host local events and rent out the community hall.

Amy Hurd, Stakeholder Manager for Northern Gas Networks, said: “On behalf of Northern Gas Networks, it’s an honour to present Upper Hopton Community Association in Upper Hopton with this donation. We hope it allows the charity to continue using the facilities at Croft House Community Centre and support the local community.”

Roger Leedham, from Upper Hopton Community Association, said: “We would like to thank Northern Gas Networks for the very generous donation. The cooker will greatly improve the facilities available at Croft House Community Centre, for all the local residents and users of Croft House Community Centre.”

The replacement project was part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the gas infrastructure and involves replacing the existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes. This will ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The gas distributor is a dedicated participant in the Considerate Constructor’s Scheme (CCS*) and continually seek out local community projects to support whilst carrying out work in the local area.
