Around 10,000 customers in the North East and Yorkshire will still receive their gas supply despite the closure of Future Energy, a regional energy supplier.

Northern Gas Networks, the north of England’s gas distributor, will ensure customers gas continues to flow to properties so lives can carry on as normal while a supplier is found by Ofgem for affected customers.

In the meantime, there are two simple pieces of advice from Ofgem for all affected customers:

  • Don’t switch supplier
  • Do sit tight, take a meter reading and wait until your new supplier contacts you

Under Ofgem’s ‘safety net’ scheme, affected customers will be moved to a new supplier and you should receive more information soon.

Answers to questions you may have about the ‘safety net’ scheme can be found on Ofgen’s website.

You can also read the full press release on the Ofgem website.

Anyone who smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. This line is in operation 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
