The North of England’s gas distributor, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing more than £60k to upgrade the ageing metal gas mains on Mill Lane, Beverley.

The project is part of NGN’s ongoing investment in the area’s gas infrastructure and will involve replacing some 250m of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued, safe and reliable supply of gas to customers for years to come.

The five-week project, which started on Monday 4 September has been carefully planned in conjunction with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Due to the location of the gas main, and in order to carry out the works safely and efficiently, it will be necessary to introduce various temporary traffic management measures during the course of the five-week project.

Initial works began at the junction of Cherry Tree Lane and Holderness Crescent that will last for approximately three-weeks. From Monday 25 September there will be a road closure on the Cherry Tree crossing for approximately two weeks. During this time motorists will be unable to access Mill Lane via Cherry Tree Lane and will need to access the road via Sample Avenue, Coltman Avenue and Norwood.

Shops and businesses in the area will remain open as usual.

NGN’s Customer Care officers have been door-knocking local homes and businesses to make customers aware of the project, while on-site signage will advise motorists of the work taking place.

A customer cabin is located on Sample Avenue which is open to customers every Monday between 9.30am and 10.30am where the team will be on hand to answer any questions about the work as it progresses.

Robert Hope, Construction Services Area Manager for Northern Gas Networks said: “We have worked closely with East Riding of Yorkshire Council to carefully plan these works and will be doing all we can to minimise disruption to customers.

“We will endeavour to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible and will keep customers updated as the work progresses.

“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience caused during these works and thank everyone for their patience and support while we carry out this essential upgrade.”
