Engineers from Northern Gas Networks (NGN) are carrying out essential work to repair a gas main on the A167, Ponteland Road, Newcastle.
Engineers arrived on site at 9am today (12 November) and are working hard to identify the gas escape and repair the pipe.
Nigel Chambers, customer operations area manager, North Tyne at NGN said: “In order to carry out the work safely and efficiently it has been necessary to close the inside lane on the southbound carriageway of the Ponteland Road, approximately 100 metres south of the Kenton Bar Roundabout.
“We know that no one likes roadworks and I’d like to take the opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience caused by this essential work.”
