Engineers are working hard to restore gas supplies to around 350 properties in the HX6 postcode (Triangle Village) area of Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire.

Engineers from Northern Gas Networks are visiting affected properties in order to isolate gas supplies so that repair work can then be carried out safely.

It is estimated that the main gas supply will be restored by mid-afternoon tomorrow (Thursday).

The loss of supply resulted from a pressure-related incident that occurred during a routine operation on a replacement scheme at around 3pm today (Wednesday.)  A full investigation into the cause is underway.

Northern Gas Networks would like to apologise to those affected by the temporary loss of supply and reassure customers that engineers are on site to restore gas supplies as soon as possible.

An incident room has been set up in Triangle C of E Primary School, on Butterworth Lane, where hot plates will be available. It will be open from 7am in the morning (Thursday).

Northern Gas Networks engineer Wayne Fisher said: “The safety of our customers is our number one priority and we are currently working hard to restore gas supplies as quickly as possible to the properties affected.

“We appreciate their cooperation and understanding and would urge anyone who is affected to check on the welfare of neighbours, especially the elderly.”

Customers are reminded to always check the identity of anyone who calls at their door. Engineers carry ID cards and are always happy to show them.
