The North of England’s gas distributer, Northern Gas Networks (NGN), is investing around £90,000 to upgrade ageing metal gas mains in Water Street, Skipton.

This major project is part of NGNs’ ongoing replacement of infrastructure in the region and will involve upgrading more than 1km of existing metal gas mains with more durable plastic pipes to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.

The work which commenced on Monday 10 August will take approximately seven weeks to complete. In order to minimise disruption the project will be carried out in two phases:

Phase 1: The first phase will take place on Water Street, from the junction of Mill Bridge to the junction of St Stephens Close, and will last for approximately three weeks.  One lane will be closed from the junction of Gargrave Road during this time and access will be one way only.  Parking on Water Street will be restricted during this time.

Phase 2: Work will commence on St Stephens Close and progress towards the junction of Raikes Road. Throughout this phase temporary traffic lights will be installed on the junction of Raikes Road and St Stephens Close.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the project. Customer Care Officers have been door knocking local homes and businesses to make customers aware of the work.

Ian Cunningham, Construction Services Area Manager said: “We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this essential work may cause and thank members of the public for their patience.”
