Ticket to Ride

United Utilities employees hope they don’t run out of gas when they cycle the length of Britain’s longest canal this weekend.

Around a dozen gas engineers from the company will ride 127 miles along the Liverpool to Leeds canal for charity.

United Utilities runs the gas network in Yorkshire on behalf of Northern Gas Networks.

The team will raise money for the Caudwell Charitable Trust which provides specialist care for children with disabilities.

The Trust has given fantastic support to United Utilities network operations manager Richard Hynes-Cooper and his son Oliver, four, who suffers from autism.

Colleague Adam Stephenson, 42, United Utilities network operations manager, has organised the May 13/14th charity effort.

He said: “The Caudwell Charitable Trust is an extremely worthwhile cause and everyone at United Utilities is aware of how this charity has given Oliver the very best chance in life and helped him develop his communication and awareness skills.

“We will catch the train to Liverpool and then it will take us around two days to cycle back along the canal to our offices in Leeds. Employees are really keen to take part as this is an unusual and also fun way of raising money for a very good cause.”

United Utilities has agreed to donate £1,000 to the final fundraising total.
