United Utilities engineers found the historical artefacts when they relocated offices within the Queen Margaret’s Industrial Estate.
The company runs Yorkshire’s gas network on behalf of Northern Gas Networks.
When gas engineers moved offices they found the treasures at the back of a cupboard.
One map shows a Promenade Pier which is no longer there and also a road which was then called Royal Albert Drive which is now the North Marine Drive.
Richard Hynes-Cooper, United Utilities networks operations manager, said: “The maps would have been used by gas engineers more than a century ago to determine the locations for gas mains in the town.
“The maps depict the resort in 1891 and offer a real insight into what the resort was like at the time. One map shows a Promenade Pier which had a firing range on it and another map labels the North Sea as the German Ocean.”
Now Northern Gas Networks, which owns the gas network in the region, is keen for the maps to go to a good home such as a local historical society or museum.
Mr Hynes-Cooper said: “We think that residents would love to take a look at these treasures from a bygone era and maybe there is someone out there who would be keen on showing them off.”
Any historical group or museum interested in showing off the maps can contact Richard on 07887 825 055.
