Urgent gas works for A629

Northern Gas Networks is giving road-users advance warning of urgent gas works on the A629 in Halifax.
The town's gas pipeline owner is due to start work on Friday 13 January on vital gas repair work to a 20" cast iron gas main situation under the road.

Engineers will be working close to the junction with Hunger Hill and expect to complete early next week. Work will get underway on Friday around 6.30pm.

In order to carry out the work safely, it is necessary to close a short section of the outbound lane on the A629 at this location while work takes place over the weekend. A diversion will be in operation and clearly sign-posted.

The area's gas pipeline owner is advising anyone who regularly uses this route to allow a little extra time for journeys.
Northern Gas Networks would like to apologise for any inconvenience and will actively seek to minimise disruption while this essential work is completed.
Area operations manager Dennis Langham said: "We know that no-one likes to be faced with road-works, especially when they affect busy roads but the work is vital and we never take short-cuts when it comes to gas safety.”

"Northern Gas Networks owns and manages around 37,000km of gas main across the North East, northern Cumbria and most of Yorkshire. We also run the region’s gas emergency response service, attending reports of suspected gas escapes 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
"If you think you smell gas please call 0800 111 999 and an engineer will be dispatched, free of charge, to make the area safe. Please don’t leave it to someone else to make the call.”
