Gas Grant Blazes a Trail at Bradford's City Farm
The area's gas pipeline owner has given the Girlington-based organisation a grant of £5000 to create a nature trail, treasure trail, new signage and educational materials.
Judges were impressed by plans to create an exciting visitor attraction that would also attract lots of wildlife. There also praised plans to create fun educational activities linked to the environment.
The farm is run by the Prism Youth Project which helps young people gain qualifications in horticulture, animal care and the environment.
It is one of 17 organisations from across the region to benefit from the gas company's ‘Northern Green Networks’ campaign, which is dedicated to providing financial support to grass-roots environmental projects.
Over the past four years, Northern Gas Networks has invested £240,000 in helping 68 green dreams come to life across the North East, northern Cumbria and Yorkshire.
Director of Communications John O’Grady said the farm’s application stood out among more than 90 entries to the 2010 grant scheme because: "the new pathways and nature trail would not only benefit the environment but also improve visitor's experience of the farm. We hope that all visitors will enjoy making the most of this new addition."
John recently visited the farm to see how the nature trail is coming along and to present a glass tropy to commemorate the grant award, he continued "Supporting grass roots organisations like this is what Northern Green Networks is all about, it’s an on-going investment programme that breaths life into green dreams. The results are not only good for the environment but also local communities and we hope the benefits will be felt for decades to come.” He continued.
Paul Craven, Managing Director of the Prism Youth Project said: "We’d like to thank Northern Gas Networks for this much needed grant. It has allowed us to create an informative educational nature trail that not only looks pretty and is nice to walk along but is a great boost to the environment, insects and plant life too.”
