Northern Gas Networks needs to carry out essential work on a gas main at the junction of the A64 and Valley Road.
Work will start on Wednesday around 9.30am and is expected to take around a week to complete.
The work will be carried out by engineers from United Utilities which operates the area’s gas emergency response service on behalf of pipeline owner, Northern Gas Networks.
Temporary three-way lights will be in operation at the junction for the duration of the work. The lights will be manned at peak times to help ease the flow of traffic.
United Utilities’ Ian Waddle said: “We know this is a busy location and appreciate that it may cause some inconvenience to road-users but the work is essential to the continued safe supply of gas.
“We have worked closely with Scarborough highways department to plan this project and have agreed to man the traffic lights at peak hours. We have also arranged for engineers to work extended hours to ensure that we get the job done as quickly and safely as possible and with minimum disruption.”
“Northern Gas Networks and United Utilities apologise for any inconvenience experienced while this work is carried out and we would like to reassure road-users that we are committed to reducing disruption wherever possible.”
