The essential gas mains upgrade project is already underway in Haworth and is expected to be completed shortly before Christmas.
The town’s famous cobbled streets will not be affected by the work and the Keighley and Worth Valley railway will continue to operate a normal timetable.
Engineers will be working on: Belle Isle Road, Apsley Street, Ash Street, Ashfield Terrace, Bridgehouse Lane, Bright Street, Brow Road, Prospect Street, Butt Lane, Carlton Street, Duke Street, Lindon Street, Lord Street, May Street, Mill Hill, Oak Street, Park Street, Prince Street, Station Road, Surgery Street, Thomas Street and Victoria Road.
In total 2.1km of ageing metal gas mains will be replaced with modern plastic pipe which is safer and more reliable and has an average lifespan of around 80 years.
Engineers from Enterprise are carrying out the work on behalf of the area’s pipeline owner, Northern Gas Networks.
The work is vital to ensuring the area has a safe supply of gas and is part of Northern Gas Networks' wider, annual £82 million investment programme.
In order to carry out the work safely it will be necessary to put some traffic restrictions in place. From September 13, Belle Isle Road will be closed at its junction with Bridgehouse Lane for three weeks. A signed diversion will be in place via Bridgehouse Lane, Rawdon Road, Butt Lane and vice versa.
When engineers are working on Victoria Road It will be necessary to close the road between its junctions with Prince Street and Mill Hay Road. A diversion will be in operation and clearly signposted.
Access will be maintained at all times during both closures for emergency services and wherever possible for residents and deliveries.
Northern Gas Networks and Enterprise would like to apologise for any inconvenience and will look to minimise disruption wherever possible while this essential work is completed.
Network Operations Director for Northern Gas Networks Chris Gorman said: “We know that Haworth is a major tourist destination and have worked with the local authority to plan the job carefully, minimising disruption wherever possible.
“We know that no-one likes to be faced with road-works but this project is vital to the continued safe supply of gas to Haworth and we never take chances when it comes to gas safety.
“A customer liaison officer will be on-site throughout the works to advise of progress and our engineers will do all that they can to get in and out as quickly and safely as possible.”
