Gas main upgrade moves to Hull Road, York

A major project to renew the gas mains in York is will now move onto Hull Road on 21 August for nine days.

Northern Gas Networks is carrying out a £44,000 investment project which involves replacing 415m of old metal mains with a modern plastic pipe in a move that will safeguard gas supplies to the area for decades to come.

The vital work is just finishing on Lawrence Street, Walmgate, Foss Island Road and Barbican Road. Work on Hull Road has been timed so that it did not clash while work was carried out on these other major routes in the programme.

Engineers will be working on Hull Road outside the Black Bull pub and at the junction with Windmill Lane and Tang Hall Lane.  Three-way temporary lights will be in operation around the excavations to ensure pedestrians can cross in safety and that traffic can move at a reasonable pace. Access will be maintained to the sports centre.

Area Operations Manager Richie Read said:  "We’re grateful to residents, traders and road users for their ongoing patience and understanding while this essential work continues. We’ll do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum, and the long term benefits of a safe and secure gas network will make it all worthwhile.”
