Burnley Road, Mytholmroyd Gas Works

Vital gas works are underway on Burnley Road in Mytholmroyd to protect the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to the area.

The £38,000 project is being delivered by engineers from Enterprise on behalf of Northern Gas Networks, the area’s gas pipeline owner.

Around 340m of old metal gas mains will be replaced with modern plastic pipe on Burnley Road between its junctions with Midgley Road and the White Lion Hotel. The work will take around seven weeks to complete.

Area operations manager Tony Thompson said: “This is a busy road and in view of that we have tried to minimise disruption wherever possible. The traffic lights will be manned at peak times to help keep the traffic flowing.

“We know that no-one likes to be faced with road works but we would like to reassure people that it is in our interests to get in and out as quickly and as safely as possible to allow the area to start benefiting from an improved gas supply.”

A customer liaison officer will be on site throughout the work to ensure that the traffic flow is monitored and residents and businesses are kept up-to-date on the progress of the work.

Northern Gas Networks and Enterprise would like to apologise for any inconvenience experienced while this work takes place and pledge to minimise disruption wherever possible.

Northern Gas Networks’ Director Chris Gorman said: “This year, Northern Gas Networks will invest £63 million renewing gas mains to ensure that our system remains one of the safest in the world. The good news is that our new plastic pipes are more durable and flexible and will last for generations to come."
