Brighouse Gas Works Complete on Time

Huddersfield Road in Brighouse will be back to normal for the Monday morning commute as Northern Gas Networks completes major gas works on schedule.

The work is being carried out on behalf of the area’s gas pipeline owner by Enterprise, and is expected to finish on-time this Saturday (3 July).

The £50,000 scheme, to replace a section of the town’s feeder gas main with modern plastic pipe, will ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of gas to Brighouse for decades to come.
Northern Gas Network’ Director of Communications, John O’Grady said: “We carry out thousands of gas mains replacement schemes every year across the region and the majority are completed on time – this project is no exception.

"The area’s traders, road-users and residents have remained understanding throughout the work and we would like to thank them for showing us a great deal of patience.

The good news is that the new gas main has an expected life-span of around 80 years – so we won’t be back to work in this area for some time."

The work is part of Northern Gas Networks annual £63m investment programme across the north of England that will see around 16km of old metal gas mains upgraded this year alone in Calderdale at a cost of £ 1.8m.

The multi-million pound package is part of a wider £82m annual investment programme by Northern Gas Networks.

Area Operations Manager Tony Thompson said: "We know that no-one likes to be faced with road works so we always look to minimise disruption wherever possible.

Our main aim is to get in and out as quickly and safely as possible so that people can start to benefit from having a safer more reliable gas network."
