Chimes of Success For Blind Society

Visitors to the Society for the Blind of Dewsbury, Batley and are enjoying the sweet chimes of success after winning an environmental grant from Northern Gas Networks.

The society won £5,000 which has funded the introduction of three large musical instruments within their garden. They will also be creating a new wildflower garden area.

The Society was one of 23 projects from across the North of England to win support from Northern Green Networks, a scheme run by the region's gas pipeline company to support grass roots environmental projects.

Kate Holdsworth, fundraising manager at the Society said: “We wanted to make the garden much more interactive for visually impaired youngsters by creating a wildflower garden to stimulate their senses and at the same time introducing over-sized instruments to encourage the children to explore their way around the garden.

"We hope this will encourage the children to explore the garden having fun and enjoying the wildflowers along the way."

Presenting the award from Northern Gas Networks, Deborah Yewdall said: “It is great to see so many children enjoying the garden area. To combine these outdoor instruments into a safe outdoor area is a great idea. I expect the grown ups will enjoy this as much as the younger visitors.”
