Basil Scarsella
Basil Scarsella is Chief Executive Officer of Northern Gas Networks Limited.
Prior to taking up the appointment with Northern Gas Networks on 1 June, 2005, Mr Scarsella was the CEO of ETSA Utilities, a privatised electricity distribution business in Australia, for more than six years.
Between 1994 and 1998 he was General Manager of ETSA Power Corporation, responsible for electricity distribution, retailing, field services and customer services. Before joining ETSA Corporation in 1994 he was Group Planning and Finance manager at South Australia Gas Company (SAGASCO).
Mr Scarsella holds a degree in Economics from the University of Adelaide and is a Certified Practicing Accountant.
Outside business, Mr Scarsella has had a major community involvement in Australia through football and the Health service. He was a member of the Board of FIFA between 2000 and 2002 and was President of the Oceania Football Confederation between 2000 and 2003.Prior to that he was Chairman of Soccer Australia from 1998 to 2001 which followed a five-year spell as Deputy Chairman.
Additionally, he is a Life Member of Football Australia, was a torch bearer at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, received the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and in 2003 became a Member of the order of Australia, for services to sport.
