Murray Road, Workington - Gas leak

Update 2 - Friday 17th February, 2012 at 11:12

All traders have returned to their business premises on Murray Road, Workington, following a gas leak on Tuesday - and road reinstatement is now underway.

Our engineers have been working round the clock since Tuesday morning to tackle the leak, and to ensure all residual traces of gas had been vented from surrounding properties.

We have now begun the process of reinstating the road, which is expected to take the remainder of today (Friday), and possibly stretch into the weekend, due to the number of excavations that had to be dug in the highway during the incident.

Our thanks to traders, shoppers and local residents for their patience throughout this incident.

Update 1 - Thursday 16th February, 2012 at 17:15

Engineers are continuing to work on Murray Road in Workington following a gas leak on Tuesday (February 14).

A damaged gas main has been repaired, but there are still low level traces of gas in the crossroads area of Murray Road - which remains closed to traffic.

A small number of businesses in the immediate vicinity of the work remain closed today (Thursday), while engineers complete their investigations.

We are continuing to work around the clock in order to resolve this situation, and would like to thank local traders and motorists for their continued patience.
