Operations Overview

Northern Gas Networks has chosen to separate its asset management and ownership responsibilities from the delivery of operational activity under a model referred to as strategic asset management.

This split of assets and operations means Northern Gas Networks retains all the obligations and responsibilities required by its Licence To Operate – issued by the industry regulator Ofgem (Office of Gas & Electricity Markets) – and that it is accountable for all its licence and safety obligations.

So, Northern Gas Networks owns the assets and is responsible and accountable for the continued safe and efficient running of the gas distribution network, ensuring the highest possible performance standards from planning through to asset maintenance and replacement.

United Utilities is the UK’s largest outsourced utility management services provider and a member of the ownership consortium.  It has been contracted to manage and deliver all operations including maintenance, repair, capital replacement design, customer service management and the provision of the 24-hour gas emergency service.
